Searching for traces of European ancestors in Mongolia, Khovd / Bayan-Ölgii, 2024 (ongoing)

Exploring the ancient petroglyphs and rock carvings in Tavan Bogs, reminiscent of Altamira’s masterpieces. Graves with traces of European ancestors have been discovered primarily in the Altai Mountains, particularly around the Khovd and Bayan-Ölgii provinces. These aimags yielded several archaeological sites where ancient burials have been unearthed. These sites have provided significant evidence of the presence of European lineages, including DNA analysis that reveals connections to French bloodlines. By collaborating with the Erasmus+ grant holder, Mongolian historians learn how to navigate the application process for Erasmus+ grants. The Moneul partnership provides historians with guidance on project design, proposal writing, and compliance with funding requirements. Through these efforts, the historians of the Khovd and Bayan-Ulgii universities get a deeper understanding of writing an Erasmus+ application about our shared heritage.
